Charming Coastal Cities Provide Endless Opportunity
for Recreation and Entertainment

The entire Oregon coast is lined with charming, unique towns and cities, each known for one or more special locations or events. Within an easy drive up or down historic Highway 101, you can have just about any sort of adventure you could ask for.

North of the Reserve is Astoria, the earliest American settlement west of the Mississippi. Often called the “San Francisco of the North”, this city offers classic architecture, a full range of shops and services, and a heritage dating back to the days of commercial fishing, trapping, and logging.

Astoria is known for its Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, which takes place in June and celebrates the return of sunshine and warmth. For the kids, there's nothing like a trip to the Uppertown Firefighters Museum at 30th and Marine Drive.

North of there on the Washington side of the Columbia are Ilwaco and Long Beach, with Westport another hour or so north. These cities are known as salmon fishing destinations and are a bit more industrial. Some Lewis & Clark historic sites are also on the Washington side.

To the south are Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Rockaway Beach, Tillamook, and Lincoln City – all within an easy day’s round trip and each featuring a variety of coastal attractions and events.

Cannon Beach is best known as the home of Haystack Rock. This photogenic beach and easily recognized sea stack formed a memorable backdrop for the movie The Goonies. Today they provide incredible scenery and plenty of opportunities for tide pooling. It is also a very popular surfing beach for novices and experts alike.

Cannon Beach is also where you'll find many spectacular restaurants and local boutiques. North Hemlock Street is perfect for exploring the local delicacies and finding a nice patio dining area.

Seaside is home to the historic oceanfront Promenade. Relax and enjoy the salt air, or take in a vibrant sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Later, try the fresh seafood and renowned Oregon wines served by one of Seaside's many fine restaurants.
